PVC, when freshly molded, is very soft, and easily bent. As years of age take their toll (and UV from MH's), the PVC becomes incredibly brittle to the extent of shattering - much like you witnessed....

Same thing happened to my ex-wife after swimming through a school of jellyfish. Took about 6 - 8 weeks to clear up on its own.
