If they were a true pair like you said he is missing his mate....as far as the ick, if the mate died of ick in your display tank then you may want to take measures to rid the display of ick if that...

There are other things that can bother a duster besides water parms, lighting changes from where you purchased, water currents, crabs, even some fishes, all of these could play a role..

I went with a DSB in my tank the 2nd time around....the first time I mixed up various stuff for the bed, but 2nd time around used just southdown as the finer the better....it never came close to...

If you setup everything at once which is recommended you will not need to add anything else.....the live rock will begin the cycle of the tank, especially if you get shipped rock which will have die...
