i tried a sixline wrasse, didn't work, flatworm exit worked great. freshwater dips only work on coral but you need to treat the rock in your tank too.

doubt if the bubbles caused the issue, but the tissue loss could have caused the skimmer to act up. if i have something die, it causes my skimmer to act up for a day or so. just my thoughts
