Should be 1" and 3/4" bulkhead fittings that is the pipe size. Actually hole DIA will be: 1-3/4" for the 1" and 1-1/2" for the 3/4"

If what you have is working and you like it. Don't change it. If you plan on adding more fish/corals lps/sps then a sump/fuge may be an option.
