i use them, mostly because of size. and they are ok on sound, if you submerge and isolate the pumps you cant hear them at all, even if you have your head inside the cabinet! but they will add heat...

the full covered cabinet on back of tank is the best way to do just about any system. lots of room for plumbing and stuff!
