Thanks Gsmguy. Just thought and seems like the fantech would have to come at the same time as the light. Currently they come on when the temperature of the tank reaches a certain limit.

Maybe after the ro/di you could look into rdsb in a bucket. I'm doing something similiar and though it hasn't brought my nitrates to 0 it's close. Seems a lot are having success with them.

T5 vs VHO

I've read a bit on t5s but still don't know why they are better then vho's. One vho 48" = 110 watts. One t5 = 54 watts.

T5 is thinner so you can fit more but are they better and why?.

I have a hanna colormeter to test. Alot of other kits will give a reading of 0 when in fact you may have the kind of phosphate we test for. So maybe investing in a kit that will give you low figures...
