Everyone gives crabs such a hard time. . .if you're like me and like having crabs in the tank, give trochus snails a shot. You'll most likely have to order them online I'm afraid. They're very...

I assume by BTE you mean BTA (Bubble Tip Anemone). That's pretty normal, especially for Maroon Clownfish. Some rock rubble may work. . .or the clown may just move it out of the way. My Maroon...

It does seem that RC is not very consistent as far as calcium goes. I've had a bucket or two that's had calcium levels no higher than IO. As a matter of fact, 375 is about the highest I've seen. ...

Oh, I'll have to give those a try. Of course, I think I've found a way around some of the blocks anyway. It seems that as long as I link directly to the forums, it doesn't get blocked. I can even...

TDS is a pretty generic way of guaging water quality. You never know what those dissolved solids are. Tap water with a TDS of 100 could very well be better for your aquarium than water with a TDS...

Generally, the mouth shouldn't look swollen if it's just expelling waste. It may look like it's shriveled up, but a swollen mouth is usually a sign that it's unhappy. How swollen are we talking...

I got a brand new room, does that count. This one even has a desk, but I lost the refrigerator. It's definitely the closest I've ever lived to work. . .about one flight of stairs away, which is...

Yeah, those cleaners don't seem to have any fear of anemonies. That's why I ultimately got rid of mine. He was relentless about stealing food from the anemone, and I think my clownfish go tired of...

If that's a hard shell on it (it's kind of a half-shell really), then I think you've definitely got a Stomatella. I had a bunch of those little guys, especially in my macro algae tank, and I loved...

A week's probably fine if it's a well established tank with a sufficient amount of live rock. It definitely depends on the fish. I've had a six-line that I would regularly leave unfed for 5-6 days...

Hey, I'm living in a deep sand bed! I'm not an insomniac either. If it was 0430 there, then it was around noon over here. I actually had to break down my tank last night. I've been trying to get...

I doubt it's the calcium. I don't think excess calcium is generally detrimental to corals, since it will eventually just precipitate out of the water. Not so good for your pumps, but certainly not...

My new fishtank

Well, it's a fish only, but I've never had a quicker cycle. I think it's about a .1 gallon. Are two fish too many for a tank that size? I do have some of that LED lighting everyone's talking...

OK, I can only answer a couple of your questions, but you really don't lower calcium as much as allow it to be consumed. If you're currently dosing any calcium supplements, just stop until it comes...

I seem to remember one of the chemistry experts saying that you won't get a reliable PH reading from RO/DI water. . .something about lack of ions and some such chemistry nonsense. Anyway, other than...

Definitely check your alk. If it's higher than normal, that could cause your PH to rise. I think the salt is definitely a likely culprit. I certainly wouldn't worry if it stays under 8.4, though.

I'd stay away from most PH buffers. They'll bring up low PH, but they do it by raising your alkalinity, which can cause problems. I agree with papagimp that 7.9 at night isn't anything to be really...

A good T-5 setup is going to give you significantly more PAR than VHOs, despite the fact that VHOs technically produce more light. T-5s have two big things going for them, and they both have to do...
