Depends on wether the sides will be up against a wall. Wherever it goes, get the back drilled (not the bottom) and have the overflow only at the top of the tank, not going all the way down the back....

They don't impede surface skimming. If you are going to worry about anything, worry about them being big black ugly eyesores in the middle of your tank that you can't scrape algae off of.

It depends a lot on the type of skimmer you are using IMO. If you skimmer isn't putting out that many bubbles, dont worry about it. I wouldnt dream of not having baffles with my beckett though.

First time I plugged mine in it went in reverse. I unplugged it and then plugged it back in and it hasn't done it since. I am not running it on a wavemaker though... You're not supposed to.
