I dont know how livebearers breed, but clownfish will lay eggs every 20 some odd days. I wouldn t worry about it to much though considering some consider it free fish and coral food when they hatch.

I would slow it down. If you are getting nitrite, then you could be pushing some aerobic water through the reactor, thus limiting the growth of the anaerobic denitrifying bacteria.

Nah I think you are fine i have a mag 9.5 on my 29 (32X turnover). You are looking at 35X turnover which isnt as high so other tanks that I have seen. Not to mention head loss from height as well...
