Yeah, lose the rock. You'll spend a hell of a lot less replacing the rock than you will fighting that stuff if it takes hold.

I didn't even use a rotary tool, I just got some kitchen shears and kept cutting out V's in the shroud/tube thing until it was gone. It took less than a minute and worked just as well.
