I still doesn't hurt to feed them IMO.

They tend to hide a lot when they are new to a tank... after a while they will get more comfortable and you will seem them out and about more often.

I would say a chocolate chip star is definately NOT reef safe and will eat almost any sessile invertibrate. Get it out!
