I have had some that grow flat as a board in heavy flow. But if you cut a knotch in the growing edge, it will make it cup and whirl a little more.

Are you sure yours is a Hoek? The corallites seem diff then the other Hoeks I have seen. Or the picture you posted looks diff than the pictures of what I was told was a Hoek.

Lunchbucket, I would recommend spreading those bulbs wider apart. They cover 2 feet x 2 feet. The heat from them being side by side like that may actually hurt the bulb life.
Mine are about 1.5 feet...
