In that case you could turn off your power heads...
In that case you could turn off your power heads for a few minutes then spread a paper towel across the entire water surface. The paper towel will absorb the oily film. You'll be good for few days.

Yep, many tanks at the same height, and connected by syphons. I'm still thinking about a "passive flow" design (not connected straight to a powerhead) to eliminate any risk of overflowing.
