a way to speed up the cycling - is to add marine biospira - which is the actual live bacteria needed for the cycle
Otherwise - using a dead piece of cocktail shrimp will work - but - would not use...

I like the cured rock much better - much easier to deal with - this way you just rinse it - scrub some with a brush - can do a hypersalinity dip - also blow f/w with a turkey baster into any...

I've heard the live sand (florida gulf) - from TBS is exceptional. What ever you get -add a few pounds of this sand to the mix and you will really have nice live sand.
