Putting a long input tube might decrease air delivery. Alternatively you could rig the needlewheel pump to recirculate the water. But then you would need a feed pump.

I think the lifereef will convert well to a meshwheel. I would try it out with the smaller pump like a Gen-X4100. A sequence Dart would be way too powerful both in water and air...
