Mine move them around when they close by the burrow entrances. Usually they move small rocks and stuff out of the way, could be doing the same; or like reef3r said, he is remodeling the inside.

I always preferred to get a larger clown (4inches) if I could, in this situation. Males hardly reach 2 inches, usually. The larger clown should assert dominance quite easily.
