if your hard up for cash. try to get a RO filter now. and than a DI filter added on later. most RO puts out around 6 TDS which is much better than any brita could dream of. ill give you some links...

i also agree with leshamptom i would set up a new tank as much as you can with out having to buy double equipment and than move the livestock over after everything is up and running.
