you have it right, new sand and your liverock...

you have it right, new sand and your liverock will handle the load!
the new sand may go thru a small cyno cycle as it establishes itself, a couple cups of the old sand gets it going a little quicker.

you ALWAYS take a chance with glass...and yes silicone does work around a bulkhead.

yes it does let more Uv through....but corals get their color from reflecting light and uv, right! so you may get varied...
