Zoas and similar corals (palythoa, protopalythoa) can certainly grow long stalks, especially if they are in low light. I have some zoas in my tank with stalks that are > 1 cm.

It could be zoa or similar polyp, but it could also be a anemone like aiptasia or majano or corynactis.
It can be hard to ID polypoid things until they get larger.

I am using a Current USA Sunpod 2 x 150W HQI hood for my 70g Tech. It's plenty of light for what I keep (LPS and zoanthids), but they also make a 2 x 250W version.

I have 4 different colors of candy canes and none of them like bright light. Some of them started to bleach when placed in direct light but got their color back after being moved lower in the tank.

I've found that they do better by placing them high in the back of the tank or low near the sides or front corners...
