How do you keep your tank clean?

I've had my 90 gallon FOWLR tank going on 7 years now.

I use a Euroreef RS100 for skimming and it does pull some good junk out.

Other than that I rely on the live rock for filtration.

Got a Spectrpure RO/DI unit from many moons ago.
Was wondering if I can replace the filters with filters from Sears or Home Depot?

Is there something special about the filters these manufacturers...

Question ro/di water quality.

My RO/DI unit has been running on the same filters for over a year.

I use a TDS meter to test the water it makes every time.
The tap water puts out a hefty 224 on the TDS meter.
