But the ocean surge along the bottom (where our corals live) has always been 2-3 times stronger at night IMHO and experience.

CSS pumps do make more noice when the pump's ball valve is partially closed or fully closed - I close mine from time to time to clean the collection cup - the pump becomes very very loud....
