I think you can compensate the length of time...
I think you can compensate the length of time difference by using them in a ratio that works for your tank. Hope that makes sense.

Actually, for me this debate would come down to which sand I was using. expensive LFS sand? Then definitely rinse. Cheap HD or Lowes sand? Buy new.

kind of. Under my lighting XM10k the polyps are "browner" but not brown, I don't know if with different lighting more green would come out. I do know that new growth looks more like this.

You can gang the lights together and have them on the same rail. That's what I did. I light a 450 gallon with 500 watts (2-250 XM 10k) Sps grows great.
