Personally I'd get rid of the hermits. Hermits will kill and eat snails for their shell, so your spending money on snails to keep some hermits fed.

The whole "cycle" is a process of things (ie bacteria, algae, CORALINE etc..) dying and then replenishing itself. It really doesnt matter if their on or off... your tank...

Also what will make the skimmer go crazy and put micro-bubbles in the system is...

I would NEVER trust a cracked tank... especially a crack that spans the entire width!

Hermits are fine for reef.... if you dont mind them stealing food or stepping all over your corals every now and then.

One thing to remember to.... make sure your snails out number the hermits by...
