pretty cool techique.... instead of metal wire you could try graphite I know it is a conductor, however don't know if it is reef safe.... should be, because really it is just another form of carbon.

I wouldn't trust Wallys filling station. Like jsr said, check TDS. Since you're buying water then get DISTILLED kind in a gallon jars.

Yep, plants need dark period to breathe. You can get safely to 18 hours photoperiod for macros. Also, bumping up photoperiod had been reported to discourage Caulerpa to go sexual.
