Actually I wasn't comparing it to any form of algae. Just the mangrove alone. I just wondered where it ranked in the middle of things as a plant or tree.

The blue foam is used for a second strainer for anything smaller that the outside strainer can't catch (using it in sump). I thought when I used the pump that it hindered performance....
