Is there a particular reason why a calcium reactor need to made from clear acrylic? Or could you use PVC pipe?

I'm at my wits end here. Without getting too descriptive here.
I have 12 large soft corals.
And maybe 8 total small hard corals.
2 large Anemone.
12 large long spine urchins.
Probably 30 to 40...
