means you have too much gph running between the 2...
means you have too much gph running between the 2 pumps... could try a 2nd set of intake vents down near the bottom to mid section like in the aquapod.

it depends you can do a set up to raise them to...
it depends you can do a set up to raise them to adult 1.022 or a 2 liter bottle 1.018. then you are going to have to feed the adults if you do the whole tank set up

look for build up on the connects ,ie the ends of the impeller make sure the seals are not worn out, take a small bottle brush and some vinigar and clean it out.
