I don't think there is any down fall to running it more slowly than recommended except the fact that it may cause the chiller to run longer as it has to take more time to accomplish the change in...

Every thread I've read on here about starting up...
Every thread I've read on here about starting up a new tank people always mix the salt directly in the tank. Just do it slowly waiting a few minutes after each salt addition and measure the salinity....
