I'd recommend a 400w SE blue(14k-20k) MH in an original Lumenmax by SLS, the large one, for wide spread. Also, some VHO actinics.

Softies need light too. If they are lacking, they'll be brown...

I wouldn't trust caulking to be reefsafe, but white silicone is. However, nothing sticks well to HDPE, and silicone is the worst.

This is the downside to BB, but it's minor. Cover it as well as...

If you want to grow softies, I would look around on RC for a used VHO retrofit system, and build a cheap little canopy to put it in.

I wouldn't count on much growth from those bulbs in the pic.

I have Lugols dipped many zoas frags, and put them directly into a 20g nano. Never had a problem.
I suspect contamination. Maybe from the hands, maybe from the air.
Any fumes near the tank...

In general, the bluer it is the less intense. A 250w 6500k has more "intensity" than a 400w 20k, intensity meaning lumens and most importantly, PAR.

Get a Deltec APF600, not the AP600. You won't even hear it with it in the sump. I run one in my bedroom for that very reason. The APF will sell in 5 minutes if you choose to. I don't know if that...

I think thats a great idea if you want to get more SPS. If youre using a blue MH, you likely won't bleach anything except maybe a few LPS and mushrooms. But you can always find/make a dim spot for...

You'll be better off with a 400w if you plan on lighting the whole tank. A 250w may not cut it on the edges. But if I were to choose, I would, and did choose the LA3 over the mini for being the...

Ballasts, timers, powerstrips and flammables are not a good combo. This'll happen with some well used ballasts, and timers and strip don't last very well either.

I use a stardard $1-2 baster, with a 1/4" diameter hole. When I target feed LPS and Ricordia, I have noticed that the corals seem to get a better grip on the food if you gently let the food fall out...

Great topic. In my experience, putting zoanthids in a heavy flow(100x) SPS system and watching their growth explode has been my most rewarding experience as a reefkeeper. It has me pretty much...

I don't think a 400w will overheat the tank, but will heat the tank up signif more than a 250. I have some SPS that grow up to the water's surface, only 8" from the 400w bulbs themselves, so light...
