Some people use pumps such as an aqualifter with a timer, but if the timer malfunctions, the pump will not stop causing a big problem.
I use a peristaltic pump, which pumps in very small volume....

Ive used t5, pc, and vhos in the past. I would not suggest PC, but T5s and VHOs have good and bad points to them.
T5s, are small, can fit a lot and of par. The aquablue + ati bulbs are amazing.
