It has been my experience that acrylic does not hold up over time to halide lighting and is too hard to keep the coralline...

The tank is 96"Lx44'Wx33.5"H. The front and back panels are 1" thick, the ends and top 3/4", and the bottom 1/2". 1" acrylic does distort the view a bit, especially at an angle but the 3/4" is fine....

Here is my 550 just over 6 years old. It has become rather overgrown and the tank needs to be replaced but there is always the matter of funds. I just hope it stays together until I can replace it...
