Yeah, I think he keeps them pretty clean, they're free of debris and gunk anyway. I'm just not sure about wether we even need them with LR, a skimmer, and LS

Bioball confusion

I have a compartment in my sump that my husband filled with bioballs. It's been that way for about 6 months now, and my nitrates have always been up and down, ranging between 0 and 20. I'm in the...

Just to hijack this thread for a second- should the detritus be vacuumed from the sand bed? Or should a cleaner crew be added?

My skin is still crawling at sucking a bristleworm (shudder)
I've done a lot of stupid things, the saddest of which was filling the tank too high and losing a little cherub angel :(
I will never...

That looks great! Watch out for the styrofoam though, that stuff is highly flammable (I wouldn't worry, but under the tank where there are electrical wires all over the place...eeeeehhhh.

What kind of corals are you intending to keep? As a general rule of thumb, softies don't like too much water flow. If there's a lot they can close up and just die slowly. Sps like a lot of water flow...

Oct- I can see that! I think my overflow can handle more than it is at the moment, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to getting a new bigger one if it couldn't (I'm silently kicking myself for not...

Oct- where did you get that number? 10 x the volume of the tank per hour is what I've read everywhere, and what the owner of the LFS told me. That would be 750gph after headloss.
Also- why not...

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about local second-hand things with the advent of the internet. I guess I could go a little higher on price if need be. I'd rather have something that's gonna last and cost...

Looking for a new return pump!

Hi
I've just come to the conclusion that my return pump is a steaming pile of donkey poop. It's a Rio 1700, which can only do 625gph at ground level, and has to pump up like 3-4 feet, so is probs...

Even if it has been sitting apparently dead for a year, it should either come back to life or catch life eventually. Some types of rock don't take well to becoming LR, but if it's been LR before,...
