I don't know if I'm just misunderstanding or not but, how would the jawfish know there were the aftificial burrows? From the top, wouldn't they just look like the rest of the substrate?

for your operation, having the tanks plumbed together is probably the most economical way to do it. filtering each tank will get expensive fast; with one system, you can buy better filtration...
