There are siphon overflows, but I don't think that they are as safe as drilling. If you can just drill the tank.

I top off about 2 gallons most days, but some days it is less than a gallon and other days its up towards 4 gallons. This is on a 55 gallon tank.

Mine hosted a nice clump of hair algae that i am sure i angered them by removing last night. Sometimes they wont host anemones but they will host the weirdest things.

I think you should try to do larger water changes than 25%, even if it is just 50% once every 3-4 weeks instead. Making a large water change to start off with will remove more percentage of the tap...

I only used 2 inches of sand, but even that was only about 6 pounds of sand. After the sand I have about 4-5 pounds of rock rubble and a large amount of macro.
