My ex had a similar problem, and the damn star...
My ex had a similar problem, and the damn star regrew and was doing better than ever, I think it happened to the starfish twice, though it was a brittle star. Good luck with yours.

Why don't you just use a chisel and pry them off of the rock (taking some of the rock along with them) and allow the greens to continue to grow where they were, covering up the spot of exposed rock....
