If the tangs were nipping, it was probably at algae on the gorgonian. I believe that species of gorgonian is noxious to fish, so I doubt they were picking at the gorgonian itself. Look...

Looks like you have flatworms. Increasing your flow will help, you can try siphoning them, and get a maybe adding a fish that will eat the stragglers. ( i.e. sixline wrasse, halichoeres ).

Instead of the sixline you may want to try a leopard wrasse, it does the same "chores" and is a much more peaceful fish.
