3/16" is more than enough. I'm a welder with the military. I built a stand for my 75 out of 2" angle iron and I swear to God I can drive a tank over it!!!! Hope this helps.

I made mine out of 2" angle. You could park a dump truck on it!!!! I also put a center brace in mine. I now think it was overkill. But it's better to be safe than sorry.

If you use sand paper on the acrylic where you want the silicone to stick it will work alot better than not sanding it. The silicone will have something to "Grab" onto.
