But the nice thing about "cooking" your rock is that it won't get all the trapped debris.... and better yet, it will kill a lot of the organisms that make live rock, live rock. Those dead organisms...

Well, you went BB at the same time? That alone could explain it. Some people can't keep DSBs... it just doesn't work out for them. You're likely just better at the BB thing than the DSB thing.
