my choice would be the 2-400w pfo. i have 40 gal breeder tanks with 400w 14k about 13" off the water surface and the corals love it. since the 14k have lower par the higher wattage makes up for it...

canister filters work great if kept clean. hang-on filters are easier to maintain, but keep the mechanical filter in the canister clean or it well produce nirates and phosphates.

pfo has some very nice pendent system. i used a 250w mh when i had my 58 gal. i think a 150-250w double ended mh with t-5 supplement would work great. it also depends on what you want to keep....
