How long have you had it? A clown left without another clown, will eventually turn female, so size isnt always a quarantee of sex. But if its a year or less, you may want to get a large to pair it...

They molt and try to hide while their skin...
They molt and try to hide while their skin hardens. This is also when the other crabs try to eat them. if you see the molt and see a crab attached to another shell... it was a molt.
