I am in the same boat as you, b.branscombe. They are somewhat useful , but do not use the protein skimmer as your only skimmer.

Are these skimmers really overkill? They are all rated at 3x my tank volume, even not including a sump. Can you have too powerful a protein skimmer?

They are both Zebrasomas. Will they fight? A purple tang is actually looking like the btter option, as a larger, more agressive tang would probably be more compatible in this tank.

I would get a skimmer. It is fine to start off with a HOB, as I did, but you might want to upgrade to a sump, as I am doing.

Niger, and humu are 2 of the mellower triggers, but I still worry about having them, and those other big fih in a tank of that size with the purple pseudochromis. Why not replace it with a flame...

I think that Naso, and Vlamingi will easily outgrow my tank. Right now, I am leaning toward yellow tangs. The deciding factor between them, and a purple tang will probably be which will look better...
