I think its a cool idea. My only concern would be sucking up some kind oil or gasoline spill from a boat or somthing. I would suggest running the intake line down deep in the water, being careful...

I'm not sure what my flow rate is, but I use 2 950gph's on my 180. I have them each throttled back a bit though. My lion fish absolutley loves the 1" return line. He gets right in the jet stream...
