I don't think they sell #3 in Calif. ... I used...
I don't think they sell #3 in Calif. ... I used #4 then # 16. #3 is water thin, #16 is thicker. You don't have to use #16 if the edges are straight and smooth. And yes, you need the syringe with #4.

Update: Nitrates at 0 last night ! Backing off the vodka.

Dosing 100 proof. Started with 5 ml for 4 days. Upped it to 10 ml for 7 days. Than 15 ml until it gets to zero.

I gave this a try. Two weeks ago I started dosing vodka (in my tank .. LOL). Nitrates were 80ppm. Now two weeks later they are less than 5ppm. I tried sugar dosing before with no results ......

My thought is, it will overflow if it pumps too much water in. Make sure you have a ball valve in between the pump and the skimmer.
