Yes, the probe start will fire the 12 or 14K's. I agree about the 12K's. They had a lot of problems. Go with the 14K's much more appealing.

You may want to ask the seller that question, but I believe it is a standard metal halide ballast which would fire any mogul type 175-watt bulb (I think it was 175-watts)

Be careful of the 12K's as they had a lot of problems when they were first intoduced.
I have two tanks, tank one is 55-gallons and has two 175-14K's. Nice crisp blue color and tank two is a 70...

The fixture price for the 250 DE is just a little higher due to the cost of the sockets and protective lense. I personally run two 250 DE's on my 70 gallon which is 36" wide and my corals love them....

I agree with Skip, yes it will work, with a new bulb but it's not built for a saltwater environment. It's also a 400-watt system and this may cause a heat problem if your tank is not vary deep.
