a Mag pump will run a few degree cooler external then they do submerged but their design isn't made for external use when thinking of heat exchange.

i used two of them on my 180g for several yrs and thought they were excellent pumps. affordable, quiet, dependable, and low heat............ couldn't ask for much more.

shipping has nothing to do with acclimation to lighting, nature has darkness (just like in a shipping box) and there are days when it's overcast or storming that there is minimal light into the water...

dKH is very important in a reef setup, and your 13 isn't overly high but is at the upper end. pH should be 8.2 and not fluctuate more then 0.2 throughout the light...
