Anoxic refers to a place without oxygen, anaerobic refers to metabolism without oxygen.
Not all anaerobic critters live in anoxic zones.

It doesn't really matter in the long term how clean a place LOOKS. We burn more coal than anyone, more oil too. sure we may burn it more cleanly but we still burn a whole lot more of it....
