I would tend to suspect it's more the lamps; probably a phosphor mix that's not quite right. I prefer to use UV Lighting (formerly URI) VHO lamps. They make the best ones on the market.

The benefit of actinics isn't as simple as aesthetics as some would imply. It's a major bonus for color rendition, but not the only thing to consider. They also provide lighting between 460-420...
