I assume by "stock" you mean with the smaller standard nipple air intake nipple for the venturi. Did you test the scfh after the modding of the 1/4" Barb with the stock venturi?

Curious to see ...

Yes the connection can handle the suspended pump with no problems even when the skimmer is empty. You want the pump about 1/2" off the bottom of the sump/skimmer. If possible you dont...

I think that might be a partial contributer to your MB issue Maud's With less air intake with the STOCK venturi fitting there is MORE water FLOW into the chamber. Seems crazy to ADD more bubbles...
