FWIW, it wouldn't be all that hard to put some baffles into your existing sump to turn part of it into a fuge.

If you look closer, do they have a spiral pattern? If so they're probably spiroborid worms.

Are you sure they're not moving. They also look a lot like young colinista snails.

Are you culturing pods in an external tank? Depending on the species of phyto, copepods may not be able to extract nutrition from them.

Within a working reef tank, there is plenty of microalgae...
