You have to connect the two systems together...

You have to connect the two systems together inorder to balance things out. Either connect the Tidepool2 and your homemade filter together or have both pumps pull water from a common manifold....

Legos are quite inert. I wouldn't glue them together as when you want to re-scape everything...

From everything I have read, you don't need 400w bulbs on a tank 24 inches deep. A 250w setup should penetrate that depth of water just fine. The reflectors will be the deciding factor on coverage...
